The Super Duper Activity Book was written by Lynn Gordon and illustrated by Karen Johnson and Susan Synarski. This book contains an amazing 120 games, activities, and craft projects for kids. My daughter received this book as a gift. We make it a point to try to utilize at least two of the ideas within the book each week.
The book is separated into our sections, each with their own tab on the right side of the book. The first section contains art projects. You’ll find recipes for edible play dough, instructions on how to create a nature zoo, an example of how to build a terrarium, and even a page on the best way to make seed and pasta pictures.
Section two is called “Great Games.” In this section you will discover how to have a dress up, dress down relay, how to organize a scavenger hunt, how to tag a shadow, and how to make the kids in your group laugh. Some of the games in this section are geared toward younger children, but a creative parent can add a few rules to make the games harder.
The next section is for science experiments. Some kids may not like science class in school, but they will sure jump up and down for joy when they get a chance to participate in these fun projects. The kids can become a science detective, send secret messages, create crystals, have fun with static electricity, and create a rubber-band band.
The last and final section of the book is entitled “Terrific Travel Activities.” The next time the kids are getting a bit jumpy in the car, just have them play a game of charades, create a ship’s trip log, invent a map, create songs about their travels, or practice some seatrobics. All of the rules for the activities are explained in the book.
What I like about the book is that it isn’t big or bulky. You can easily toss it in your bag and take it with you, which makes it perfect for using at a doctor’s office, at home when no other activities are planned, or during long car rides.
