Storm Cats
Storm Cats by Malachy Doyle is a brand new book on shelves. My daughter who loves everything having to do with animals insisted we get it. This book is a sweet story about strangers coming together and becoming the best of friends.
There are two children who live next door to each other. They have never spoken before or even met. Both the little boy and little girl have a cat. One is black and the other white. Even the cats haven't met each other despite how close they live until one very stormy night.
The night that the nasty storm hit, both of the cats were outside. Rain was pouring down and lightning cracking in the sky. Both of the cats were scared and stuck outside. Having nowhere to go, they both ran off together to find a safe place to hide. The closest and safest thing next to them was a long tunnel of a storm drain. Together, they both jumped in quickly to get out of the horrible weather. They were safe at last until a tree blew over from the strong winds and covered the opening. The wind pulled the whole tree right out by the roots. Both of the cats would be staying for quite a long time because now they are trapped inside. There is no way out and their families are sure to be in bed.
The next morning the storm had stopped. Both the little boy and little girl had not taken notice of their missing furry friends. The day went by as usual, playing with friends, art projects, watching TV and everything else they normally did. Bedtime has come and still, no cats to be seen, the little boy and little girl take notice and begin to worry. The storm was so terrible the night before, with the lightning cracking and the rain pouring, each child tries not to think the worst. Their parents help them look around the house, under the bed and everywhere they know there cats like to hide and sleep. When they can’t find them, their parents do everything they can to reassure each child that all will be ok. Too late to search for them outside now that it’s cold and dark, they both go to bed with plans of looking in the morning.
With pictures in hand of their beloved pets they hit the streets looking high and low. Both of them are asking everyone to look at the picture in hand. Someone must have seen their poor, missing cat. The little boy and the little girl run into each other. They soon discover they are on the same mission, finding their missing pet cats, and decide to work together. Suddenly, they hear a distant meowing. They both follow the sound in hopes that they will find their pets. To their amazement they find their kitties trapped together in the storm drain and they have become the best of friends and soon they may have kittens to share.
