In Nancy Drew and The Clue Crew: Sleepover Sleuths by Carolyn Keene, we meet Nancy Drew, George (Georgia) Fayne and Bess Marvin for the first time. The three best friends get invited to a sleepover birthday party at their friend Deirdre’s house but it’s not just any regular sleepover party, it’s a City Girls Doll themed party. Deirdre is very spoiled and gets almost everything she wants so the girls know that this party is going to be awesome. There is even supposed to be a pajama fashion show. The girls pack up their favorite City Girls Doll and cutes pajamas and make their way over to Deirdre’s.

All of the girls have a different City Girls Doll and they have a great time comparing them with one another. But Deirdre doesn’t have a doll at the part to compare. She couldn’t decide which one to bring. While the girls all have their very favorite, there is one City Girls Doll that they all wish they could have, the Hollywood Heather doll. All the girls know that they would be lucky just to see one up close since this doll is very rare and rumor is there is only one left in the country.

While everyone is enjoying some games and pizza on the way, Nancy notices a little table that has something covered on top of it. Curious, she reaches to pull the cover off but Deirdre stops her in her tracks and warns her not to touch it again because it’s a surprise. Later, Deirdre reveals that her parents got her none other than Hollywood Heather. Some of the girls are more jealous than others and think that Deirdre doesn’t deserve the doll. It’s just not fair that Deirdre gets everything she wants. Before going to bed for the night, Deirdre has her Hollywood Heather doll put up in the high window so all the girls can fall asleep looking at her.

Nancy is woken up in a panic by Deirdre. Hollywood Heather is missing. All the girls immediately begin searching the basement for Deirdre’s doll. Deirdre can’t tell her parents that she has lost it already because she promised them that if they got it for her she would take very special care of it. She begs Nancy to use her skills at finding things to find her doll. This is the beginning of The Clue Crew. Will they find who took Hollywood Heather before Deirdre’s parents find out she’s missing?
