The Bailey School Kids: Angels Don’t Know Karate by Debbie Dadey and Marcia Thornton Jones takes the kids on another wacky investigation of sorts. As if the people of Bailey City and Bailey Elementary aren’t weird enough as is, there’s another addition, Angela Michaels. She always seems to be there when ever someone is in trouble. Not only does she end up saving the day every time it needs to be saved, like appearing out of nowhere to catch Eddie falling out of a tree, but has a way of neutralizing the entire situation, like an angel, a guardian angel. Melody even swears that she has seen her wings and a halo.

As always, Eddie is skeptical and thinks that Melody is full of it and that so called halo she saw was just Ms. Michaels’ ear muffs. So what, so Ms. Michaels was in the right place at the right time more than once. The problem with that is, is she is always in the right place and at the right time. The kids need to do some investigating but the only way to do that is to spy on her. There is only one place that they could hide and watch Ms. Michaels without being noticed by her and that is in old Mr. Mason’s yard. He is one of the meanest old men in town and being caught anywhere near is yard is asking for it.

Eddie jumps in Mr. Mason’s yard first and the rest of the kids follow but before they can even get comfortable, they are busted. Mr. Mason is furious that they are on his property but before he can get his hands on the kids, Angela Michaels is there to save the day again. Melody and Liza are not surprised. Now Melody knows that Angela Michaels is a guardian angel on a mission and her mission is Mr. Mason. The old man hasn’t any friends and a cold heart.

Melody knows that she needs to help Ms. Michaels out on this one. She convinces her friends to get in on the action of warming Mr. Mason’s heart. All of her friends think she is nuts, especially Eddie. Mr. Mason is not going to become their friend and why would they want to be friends with someone so grumpy and mean any way? Besides, if Angela Michaels is an angel, why can’t she take care of Mr. Mason on her own?
